FAQs

Our Frequently asked question page is here to help you with some questions you might have.  We are very happy to discuss your needs or answer any questions you have.  If you have a query please phone us on one of the numbers above and we will be happy to help.

DO I NEED A STRAIGHT OR CURVED STAIRLIFT?

This will depend on the layout of your home, and the shape of your stairs. When we visit you, we can discuss all the options and we will make suggestions as to what stairlift would be suitable depending on your individual needs, requirements and budget.

WILL MY HANDRAIL NEED TO BE REMOVED?

We usually recommend that it is removed on the side that the lift will be fitted, as it will give the lift the adequate space it requires. If necessary, we are happy to refit the handrail to the opposite side of the wall for you.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO INSTALL?

Generally it will take only a few hours for the installation of your new lift, meaning you can get mobile straight away!

HOW IS MY STAIRLIFT POWERED?

Our stairlifts run off batteries, so you need not worry even if there is a power cut, it will still work. Most batteries last between 3 and 5 years and will automatically charge the lift when it is in park position.

ARE STAIRLIFTS NOISY?

Sometimes curved lifts can make a little more noise, but today's modern stairlifts are very quiet indeed.

ARE STAIRLIFTS SAFE?

Every lift we sell complies with British or European standards. This means the lifts have to have a number of built in safety features, all of which we will demonstrate to you in detail so you are entirely happy your lift will be safe to use.

WILL A STAIRLIFT FIT IN MY HOUSE?

We supply stairlifts that can fit a staircase as narrow as 24 inches, and when they are stationary the arm and footrests fold, so as little space is taken up as possible. As standard we will run a hazard assessment at your consultation, as safety in the home is the most important factor.

HOW MUCH DO STAIRLIFTS COST?

Our stairlifts can vary greatly in price, depending on you requirements, but our reconditioned straight lifts begin at £800, new from £1400, and our curved reconditioned lifts start from £2500, with new from £3500.

We also supply Rental lifts, both curved and straight, for those who may need a lift for a short time or are budget conscious.

WHAT GUARANTEE DO I GET?

All our supplied stairlifts have a full 12 month parts and labour guarantee, and this can be extended to 5 years at point of purchase if you so require or at any point during your ownership..

DO YOU EMPLOY PUSHY SALES PEOPLE?

Certainly not! South Wales Mobility is a family run, independent company that focuses on the customer coming first all the time. You will see myself, Robert Welsby. I have many years experience within the industry, and will oversee everything personally, from the consultation, to installation and servicing . All our consultations are completely free, with no hidden obligations or charges.

WHAT ABOUT MY WEIGHT?

We have a variety of stairlifts that can carry from 18 stones up to 30 stones.

WHAT ABOUT BREAKDOWN & SERVICING?

We offer our customers a full stairlift servicing and breakdown repair service. We aim to get to our customers as swiftly as possible, and offer an emergency service also.

DO YOU BUY BACK STAIRLIFTS?

Yes, depending on age and condition, we would offer you a trade price for your old lift if it is no longer required.

WHAT IF I MIGHT ONLY NEED A STAIRLIFT FOR A SHORT TIME?

We rent stairlifts at a competitive price so you will only pay for it as long as you keep it.
